Breaking Beauty Standards: The Resting Btch Face

Breaking Beauty Standards: The Resting Btch Face

If you’re one of those women who don’t have a smile always plastered on their face, you must be very familiar with this tag or label – the resting b*tch face. I, very certainly am one of those women. And being part of the clan, you must be used to hearing the comments like “smile a bit”, “are you mad about something?”, “why do you always look so annoyed, like chill a bit, smile sometimes!”

The Resting B*tch Face

I am pretty sure you already know the meaning of this infamous slang, so I’m not gonna bore you with a definition and get straight to the point. So first all, why women with a resting b*tch face are looked down upon, nagged to smile whereas men with the same resting b*tch face or the said serious look are made to be looked as “oh so hot & desirable!”?  If a serious face is unpleasant to look at then shouldn’t it be considered unpleasant regardless the gender?Breaking Beauty Standards The Resting Btch Face, resting btch face, eff your beauty standards, indo western outfit, color block ootd, blue crop top, fbb green pants, Ankita Bardhan, Real Girl Talks, Delhi

And before you go assuming that this post must be one of those male bashing posts. Let me make it very clear, this is not a singular gender bashing post, this rather is a society & it’s unreasonable standards bashing post! Cos’ tbh a lot of women drag down other women who have a naturally serious face so I cannot pin point just one gender here.

Secondly, why does it bother or offend anyone when we have a serious look on the face?? Last I checked news, a resting b*tch face didn’t cause any death, so what’s the hold up against it? Why does it bother people so much that they have to make comments and assumptions about her serious face expression?

But since it’s such a “big issue” to the society, she must apologize…..

Sorry if her serious face isn’t that pretty for you to look at while walking on road, maybe try not looking at her face and look at someplace else? There are so many other better things in this world to look at no?

So sorry if this resting b*tch face is uninviting to you in the pictures! Sorry if her cold, serious, strong face doesn’t look welcoming. Maybe she didn’t plan to invite anyone to her DMs while posting her selfies on Instagram?

Sorry that she is more focused on being alert if someone is following her on way back home, that she forgot to force a smile on her face to please your eyes.

Really sorry that she got lost with her insecurities and personal battles in her head that she forgot to keep you entertained with her smile and sit pretty like a centerpiece.

Maybe she should put a smiley face mask on her face to fit in as a “normal girl”, get society’s approval and look inviting to all strangers! Right? Cos’ of course, she woke up deciding to keep her lips pursed today for a cold demeanor! So now it’s your moral duty to remind her to quit this resting b*tch attitude on her face and flash you with a pearly white smile. Cos’ obviously she owes everyone a smile on her face, am I right?

It amazes me that even in 2018, we are letting the society decide how a woman should behave! No matter what she is expected to have a pretty smile on her face! As if she’s a mere robot who should have only happy expression on her face! Even though we keep complaining how fake & superficial people are these days but here we are judging someone when they are being real and not forcing a smile like it’s their only default setting!

What are your thoughts on the “resting b*tch face syndrome” that millennials are usually famous for?

P.S. Being a fashion blogger, we are usually expected to always create pretty, smiling pictures, which btw I do agree look appealing. But so do moody pictures, as they show other emotions humans have! And bloggers too, might surprise you, are normal humans like everyone! So cheers to more moody pictures!

  1. You look fabulous! One time when I was volunteering at a Red Wings game, a guy asked me why I was smiling! I was taken back by it and I wasn’t quite sure how to respond. I ended up saying because I had to. It was just so weird.

  6. The snark! The sass! I love it!

I have either Resting Btch Face or Resting “Hmmm, Lost in Thought” Face. I rarely smile unless I’m incredibly happy about something, it just feels unnatural and forced. Why would I do this to my face? Why would I subject anyone else to such an unnatural expression? 🙂

  7. You look so pretty and I love the color blocking!! I like mixing up photos where I look more serious and smiling in some. Looks like you rock either look as well!

  9. I am a smiler by nature, I guess. But i know that’s not everyone, so we should all be okay to be different. Besides, if you don’t smile as much then you don’t get as many wrinkles (see,…there’s always a good side to everything…)
I have to tell you that I love this color combination also!! Very, very pretty!!

I agree that there’s a double standard in that serious-looking women are viewed as unfriendly, while serious-looking men are viewed as brooding and mysterious.

I also love your outfit. The mix of bright colors is lovely.

  28. Loved this! You look gorgeous, and your outfit – I love the colour block! There is a double standard in everything and anything. There is also the thing that if a woman smiles too much – she is seen as airheaded and dumb. Can’t win. I honestly prefer my bitch face as it usually puts people off talking to me and that’s the idea behind looking all serious and moody heh

I think it is just a look people do in photos. I don’t see it as resting anything really. If people wish to smile they will but no matter your expression in photos it should always be natural. I think some people can’t seem to master that concept. I love your photos you look so chic and beautiful 🙂 http://www.bauchlefashion.com/

  33. Well I think I look better serious so if you visit my IG you will not see smiley faces at all Do what you are comfortable with and don’t listen to others Follow your heart and your instincts Love the outfit The colours are amazing together. xoxo Cris

You look so beautiful and have gorgeous hair! For me resting btch face is completely normal and sometimes I think that some people look better on photos with that face.

  35. I definitely have heard the saying “resting bitch face.” I kind of have the reverse where I always have “resting nice face” and so often times I get approached by strangers when I don’t want to talk. Haha both has its pros and cons.

A great outfit and a great read!
I’m really suck at posing for photos but if I want a more meaningful photos or one which is more serious, I try to capture candid moments when I’m not forcing myself and am more truely relaxed. I usually feel like I have to smile for a good photo but my normal resting bitch face can be beautiful too and I think those shots look better!

Great outfit dear. I can see your point. I think there is nothing wrong with being serious and not always smiling, espeically in certain situations. I intentionally don’t smile to much when I have to give presentations in meetings because it’s in a room full of mostly men. But typically I am pretty smiley. haha.
